Looking forward to something new, its the one part of being a fan that never grows old! No matter what your fandom, is that anticipation of what comes next. With sports fans, its the next game, the possiblity of that big win, a title or a cup and with actors, it’s the next release and everything that comes with it.
Right now, Aaron Paul fans have a ‘next release’ that we’re looking forward to. Last year we got the news that Aaron was cast in the film ‘Ash’, being made by the exciting director Flying Lotus. We got brief updates and indications of Paul filming in New Zealand last year, we got a pretty cool haircut reveal for a few weeks or so and an exclusive image soon after filming completed. Since then, nothing, but that’s OK because thats when the anticipation, the real fun of the wait truly begins.
Its fair to say, we’ve been a little starved of these anticipations but for very valid reasons. Paul taking a break with the birth of his second child, and the unfortunate cancellation of Westworld, but at the same time we were given some super sweet surprises in between times. A stunning guest spot in an episode of Black Mirror, a funny cameo style appearance in ‘It’s Always Sunny…’ and that not so secret spot with the return of ‘Jesse’ in Better Call Saul as well as the very surprising Superbowl advert in 2023!
So why is the wait so much fun? That moment a casting announcement is made is instant joy, you always want to know what projects have captured our favourite – is it a series, a film, something else? What type of role is it, the main role, supporting or a guest role, and then trying to second guess the type of role Paul will be tackling. The excitement of when filming is starting, who are the co-stars, and is there any information about anything connected to the film?? Set pictures, behind the scenes, its all content we are very much here for from that moment it’s announced!
Typically, there’s very little content we actually get to see upfront so we grab what little we can find, and thats all part and parcel of being a fan, well a fan that writes posts like these or say, runs an instagram account… ahem. With Ash, there was very little until we saw that one picture, that haircut… and honestly it was all we needed. (BIG fans of that haircut). For Black Mirror we got an added bonus when we were treated to vacation pics of the Paul family by the ‘seaside’ in my lovely country (England).
The next excitement is the ‘trailer’. Now, I love a trailer, when I used to work at a cinema way back when I would sneakily keep the trailer reels that played in the lobby! I want to see those snippets of a character, the promise of what the story might be, but I must be getting old as I don’t trust trailers as much as I used to lol! A lot of the time trailers feature clips that never make the final cut, or they’ll heavily suggest a thing that actually isn’t a thing, so I also try to second guess those trickster moments.
Then as we scrutinise the trailers, hoping there’s more than just one, we then get the impending release. With that comes new interviews, fun anecdotes, both in print/online or onscreen (for ‘Dual’ Paul suppassed himself with the story of the passport and trip to the airport, and the crash!), there might be a premiere/red carpet event to enjoy and talk about and then finally, after so much excitement we get to see something brand new featuring Aaron Paul. I get to update the filmography page of this website, and life is sweet until the next casting announcement!
So, hopefully this all resonates with the likeminded souls among us, who like me enjoy the whole anticipation of the next ‘thing’, whatever that might be. As I write this we have obviously have ASH, as previously mentioned and the next edition of the ‘Coldest Case’, the Audible story waiting in the wings (If you’ve not listened to it you are missing a treat of an audio book!).
So, let’s wait here for the next thing… who’s got the popcorn?
