Aaron Paul as everyone knows is from the state of Idaho. He always talks proudly of where he came from, and how he had a happy and adventurous childhood in his hometown. Today (October 1st) is a date that is extra special when talking about Aaron Paul and Idaho, today is a date known as Aaron Paul Sturtevant Day in Idaho.
"Boise is simply, it's magical. Idaho is magical. I'm so incredibly proud to be in this state." AP
Aaron has given several interviews where he talks about Idaho, so there is no shortage of stories like the one below from his childhood spent there:
“I grew up in Idaho, where everyone had big gardens. My friend who lived close to home had a giant garden and we built a really cool ramp. Have you ever played Excitebike, that old Nintendo game where you create your own ramps? It was our version of Excitebike.
I burned my leg on the exhaust once. It was really cool – I was proud of that. It hurt at the time, but I was like, “Hey girls. I ride a motorcycle, yes. A motorcycle accident, what is it?”
An Idahoan born & bred
As a child, in addition to experiencing some adventures around where he lived, Aaron began to participate in church plays. Later, when he was in the eighth grade, he enrolled in his school’s drama department and decided to pursue an acting career.
He graduated from Centennial High School in Boise, Idaho, in 1997. Even before graduating, he dreamed of moving to Los Angeles and worked five jobs to earn some money. Ultimately he stayed in Idaho until he was 17, before moving to Los Angeles where he finally pursued his dream of being an actor.
After successfully establishing himself as a great actor and achieving so much success, he never forgot his origins and repeatedly spoke fondly of the place where he was born and lived his childhood and adolescence. It remained a place he could always return to, a place where his parents and family still resided and in 2016 he even remarked that he was starting to spend more back time in Idaho, than in LA – despite his wish to leave when he was younger, he never truly left.
To this day, Aaron still resides in Los Angeles with his family, but in addition to that he now has an amazing refuge in Idaho, a beautiful cabin-style house where he rests and receives family and friends. So beautiful a home, it has famously featured in Architectural Digest. His home is off the beaten tracks in Idaho, on the shores of a glacial lake, where in winter we’ve seen evidence that Aaron likes to take a cold dip in the frozen waters ‘for fun’.
Aaron Paul Sturtevant Day
After so much success playing Jesse Pinkman in the acclaimed series Breaking Bad, our favorite guy Aaron Paul received a very special tribute from his homestate. It was bestowed after our guy did something very special for his one time home town.
On September 30th 2013, our idol rented the Egyptian Theater in downtown Boise, a theatre he often visited when dreaming of being an actor. Aaron set up a scavenger hunt, that quickly went viral on twitter and left the fans crazy as they tried to track down tickets to the Breaking Bad finale premiere screening that Aaron had laid on. It was such a generous gesture that put focus on Boise and Idaho, as fans of the series and of Jesse Pinkman were able to be some of the first to watch the final episode of the worldwide hit series.
It was after this well-received stunt that Idaho Governor CL “Butch” Otter declared October 1st the “Aaron Paul Sturtevant” day with the following statement…
WHEREAS, “Aaron Paul” has become a household name for his role as “Jesse Pinkman” on the popular AMC series “Breaking Bad”; and WHEREAS Aaron won two Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series" for his role in "Breaking Bad" in 2010 and 2012; and WHEREAS, anyone who watched Aaron Paul's performance in “Breaking Bad” witnessed the devastating and tragic impacts of methamphetamine use on individuals, and the scourge methamphetamine has become for our communities and society; and WHEREAS, Aaron Paul continues to be an ambassador for the State of Idaho throughout the country and is an inspiration to all Idahoans; NOW, THEREFORE, I, CL “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, proclaim October 1, 2013, Aaron Paul Sturtevant Day.
According to Otter’s spokesman Jon Hanian, such a proclamation is not uncommon. Aaron always speaks fondly of Boise and the state and his experience growing up here, Hanian says Otter wanted to recognize this “son of Idaho, City of Trees, as Paul refers to Boise.
This was a beautiful tribute, not many artists can say they have a day dedicated to them, but Aaron Paul can!!
This gesture surely must have been a source of pride not only for Aaron but also for his family who are all from Idaho. Incredible!!
